In 2005-2007 the Izmirlian Foundation donated significant amounts to repair and renovate one of the important orphanages of Armenia, located in Zeytun district of capital Yerevan. The orphanage was later renamed to Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home.

From 1967 to 2005 there were no serious repairs in the orphanage and it was in a poor condition, and there was a serious need for help.

The Izmirlian Foundation completely renovated the roof of the second building of the orphanage, renovated rooms, the frontal parts and external walls of the building, installed internal and external heating systems and a boiler, renovated two corridors connecting the first and the second buildings, and did some other repairs in the building. In addition, IF provides donations to Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home on annual basis.

The Izmirlian Foundation is excited to help Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home and takes care that children have a cloudless and bright childhood surround the family warmth and maternal love. IF contrnutes to the great goal, that all those children become full members of nowadys society and in the future they can form strong and happy families.

Since 1967, Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home was the № 245 basic rack- kindergarten of Armenian State Pedagogical University after K. Abovyan. On January 1, 1999 the basic rack-kindergarten has become a special kind of orphanage. Since January 1, 1999 the orphanage was remained as Yerevan “special kind” of orphanage. The main mission of Children’s Home is the support and contribution of daily care of orphan children and children with special healthcare and mental needs. By caring children and youth in need the Children’s Home has many features. It is specific with its organizational and daily activities.

The main aim of Children’s Home is the protection and support of rights and legal gain of health of 0-18 years old children with special healthcare and mental needs. As also the realization of social-physical attributes, medical re-establishment and the integration activities with food, clothes and other daily care supplies. The process of implementation includes also the protection of children care and their education, the organization of medical process and kids’ education in the schools and educational other institutions.

Initially, the kindergarten had thousands of children. Later on, in 1999 when the kindergarten was remained and was called Children’s Home, every year it cared more than 113 children. 

Besides the major donor -- the Izmirlian Foundation, some other organizations and individuals helped the orphanage, such as: World Vision, Step by step, UNICEF, The future is yours, Help children, and others.

Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home contributes in child-parent connection and allows meetings with parents and relatives.

One of the main features of Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home is that it is under direction of national educational programs. Everyday life of the orphanage is full of different activities: games, educational programs, guests’ meetings, art lessons and other daily activities. In the garden of Children’s Home there is a beautiful swimming pool, which is children’s most favorite place in summer time. As well, most of them like to spend their time in the garden or in the playground.

Through the years, many changes have occurred in the orphanage. One thing has always remained the same: Marie Izmirlian Children’s Home is committed to help children and families making the children’s home truly.
